Dynamically Reducing Value List - shows only values not already used

FileMaker 7 is a powerful and innovative new environment for database developers. Much has changed, and features that were well understood in previous versions take on an unfamiliar aspect in this release. Here, however, we present a demonstration file that revisits a technique that was the basis of one of our demonstration files in the previous format, utilising the new relationship structures of the current release.
The technique shown here is one which enables the presentation of a value list which reduces in size as items are selected on related records, showing only those items which remain available - ie what is someimes referred to as a 'dwindling list'. The example used for the purposes of this demo is the allocation of staff to projects, where it is necessary that each staff member only be allocated once to the team.
The technique shown here is extensible and can be used to produce lists of any length, dealing with related items ranging from a handful to many hunreds with equal ease. Moreover, the technique can be combined with conventional list filtering (conditional value lists) to produce a seamless integration of features. To demonstrate this, the lists produced in this demo are filtered by location, so that staff whose names are presented on the lists are those who have not previously been selected *and* who are located where the project is to take place. Numerous other filtering configurations and combinations are possible using variations of this technique.
