Carry/Calculate Down (across multiple records).

What previously was challenging is now much more straightforward. This demo shows a powerful technique with which to dynamically pass a value from one record to the next throughout the found set, performing calculations on it as it goes (if you wish). A new value entered at any point in the file (by hand or by calculation) will be automatically carried forward throughout the rest of the file.
The technique allows you to configure FileMaker to handle columns progressively in the way a spreadsheet's automatic 'fill-down' or 'calculate down' operates - flowing from one record/row to the next throughout the whole or part of the data set. Calculation of the dynamic (carry-forward) value works with found sets and is readily updatable with the deletion, insertion or sorting of records.
This demo file shows the basic concept by which new technologies in FileMaker 8 can be brought to bear on this problem. Although the functionality of the demo is relatively simple, the possibilities it opens up are broad!
The demo requires FileMaker 8 and leverages the new code design options that have been introduced in version 8. It also uses the free zippScript plug-in. The demo file contains no passwords.
