Showcasing FileMaker 8!   As a courtesy to fellow developers and potential clients, the following demonstration is provided for free download. Portal Sidebar Navigation System.   Building on the new calculation engine capabilities in FileMaker 8, we decided to merge together the technologies of two of the other demos in this group to demonstrate a portal which automatically highlights the current record (regardless of how the user navigates between records - the flipbook, the keyboard commands, the go to dialog etc etc). Previously this kind of functionality required a locked down interface and a fully scripted solution! Afer using custom functions and variables to streamline the management of the selected record in the portal sidebar, we added a further innovation - the use of the new FileMaker 8 tab control to present alternate portal sorts. It really is the cleanest and simplest way to build a multi-sorting potal - for any purpose. Again with this demo, we found that the power of the calc engine was complemented by judicious use of refresh triggers, so we have provided a further example of the zippScript plug-in in use alongside of the elegant features of v8, providing a complementary and interactive functionality.
